Patriot Tom Cavanagh is walking the State of New York to raise awareness of the need for serious mandate reform in New York. Unfunded mandates are restricted or illegal in 27 states … why are they legal in New York? They are bankrupting our communities – our counties, towns, and cities – not to mention the taxpayers who ultimately foot the bill. Families, seniors, children, teachers, business owners, residents, property owners, renters … EVERY SINGLE NEW YORKER is affected by the burden of unfunded mandates, and it needs to stop.

Unfunded mandates are the reason that NY has the highest school and property taxes in the country. It is ridiculous and it needs to stop. We are losing residents and businesses to other states, and the burden on those who are left behind is increasing. This is not a sustainable situation in the long term, so the State Legislature needs to face reality and make the hard decisions for serious mandate reform NOW!

Unfunded mandates are unConstitutional and add an unfair burden to localities and the taxpayer. Tom is doing a great thing and deserves the support of every New Yorker for the great sacrifice he makes on behalf of the cause. He also deserves donations so he doesn’t go into debt!!
